![]() PowerMac G5 Dual 2.5, iBook, and QS G4 867 Mac OS X (10.4. I don't know why other PDF would be giving any problem to your User, unless they contain similar elements. I have no doubt Graphic Converter will be updated for a bug in the version on the G5, but don't know whether it will totally succeed, or not. However, the image file may have other problems since only Adobe applications could fully render the image. Another file type would probably work to attach in Mail, and the likely alternative type would not "tempt" Mail to try and render to View in Place. I do not know, first hand, the application being used to create this, or much about other vector art creation programs to know whether the preferred file type for saving and transmitting such an image is PDF, or something else. I don't think Preview should crash, even if it were forced to provide an error message, or other notice that it could not render. The bottom line of this is that Mail should probably not be trying to render this file to View in Place, and Preview in 10.4 may have some problems requiring a fix. Mail 1.3.11 did not crash when attempting to attach, but rendered in the partial fashion seen in with Preview.Īs of yet, I have not determined whether the need to rasterize is the problem, or if the people image portion that renders in a progressive fashion alone might be the culprit. However, the photo-like images of people did not ever render, and the area remained blank. On my G4 running Panther, Graphic Converter (a different version) and Preview would partially render the image, and neither crashed. In Adobe Reader, the images of people in the artwork were rendered as they would with a Progressive JPEG - blurry at first, but then clearing across the entire image.Īll the above was on my G5 running Tiger. To do this took some time, but the display was then presented all at once. It states that the file/image must be rasterized to display - you probably know that to rasturize is to mathematically convert vector art to pixels for display. The latter produces a message, which I think provides a clue to what is happening. I can open the PDF with Adobe Reader, and with Photoshop CS2. Therefore, I do not if the problem is with Mail, or elsewhere in the OS. I will test later to see if it also crashes the Finder as it tries to present a preview - haven't taken that path yet, but rather have used Control-click to choose Open With. But if you don't use smart objects and you only need to get your png files back, it would work for that. I was using smart objects so everything ended up being flattened. Depending on your file layout, you could probably salvage a lot. It immediately crashed Mail, even before choosing the file. Like said above, I was able to open the file in illustrator and salvage some of the content there. Once unzipped, the PDF crashed Preview and Graphic Converter - the latter is very hard to do, but may relate the particular version, and I have not applied an update. Thank you for the email sample, and this was an important test, in my opinion.
